Our story

Our story begins in 1933. Almost a century of history has given us a lot, but our biggest pride is to be able to say we were the ones who registered the brand Las Bravas®, the original, the authentic, the delicious traditional sauce that gives its name to a typical dish: patatas bravas.

1924

Valle-Inclán wrote Luces de Bohemia (Bohemian Lights), and created the figure of the ‘esperpento’ (degenerated tragedy) inspired by the concave and convex mirrors that already decorated El Callejón del Gato in those years and that still decorate our restaurant on this same street.

1933

We opened our first shop in El Callejón del Gato, selling wines and liquor.

1940

After the Spanish Civil War we converted our bodega into a tavern, where, in addition to drinks, we also served tapas.

1950

At the beginning of the 50’s we started to elaborate a spicy sauce that we added to the potatoes, thus Las Bravas sauce was born, and with it a typical Spanish dish.

1960

A few days before the beginning of the 1960s and anticipating the overwhelming success that the sauce would achieve, we registered Las Bravas®, the trademark that gives its name to a delicious recipe born in the most traditional Madrid and imitated all over Spain.

1963

It is in this year when we decided to expand our business and we opened the restaurant in Espoz y Mina Street, which will remain in operation until 2020.

1974

Almost in the middle of the Spanish transition to democracy, we opened our restaurant in Pasaje Matheu, also in the heart of Madrid, in a pleasant pedestrian passage with a terrace.
